Draft Pick: Marcus Maxwell

#223 - Marcus Maxwell
Wide Receiver - Oregon
Height: 6-4 - Weight: 205

Overview

When injuries and departed players plagued Oregon's wide-receiving corps, Maxwell's opportunity to become a factor arose, with the junior college transfer stepping up to the challenge and making the most of each opportunity. Prior to sustaining a separated shoulder against Stanford -- his breakout game in which he caught six passes for 43 yards -- Maxwell had played in seven games and was proving himself as a viable target. The team's seventh-leading receiver caught his career-long 28-yard reception at Utah to set up a first down late in the fourth quarter. Also caught two passes for 30 yards against Washington State.

The first-team all-Golden Gate Conference selection tied for 23rd in the final California Community College rankings in receptions per game (5.0 avg.) and 25th in receiving yards (75.1 avg.), accumulating 40 catches for 601 yards and seven touchdowns his sophomore season. Also contributed 42 receptions for 886 yards and 13 scores as a prep senior.

Possesses tremendous speed as well as a tall presence as one of the team's most athletic receivers. Was able to make contributions early last season but suffered a season-ending shoulder injury during the Stanford game, forcing surgery and hindering further development. Development hampered by not participating in bowl preparations or spring drills while continuing to rehab but once healthy, will be a solid contributor and vie for playing time as a senior. Possess the ability to block as well as make himself available for the quarterback. Will benefit from becoming completely healthy and stepping onto the field to further understand the Ducks' offense
