Parrish Now Free?

The 49ers are uncertain entering training camp who their starting free safety will be, but having veteran Tony Parrish makes it easier. Parrish is versatile enough to switch from his starting strong safety position back to free safety at any point in a game, something he has done with the Niners. When rookie Keith Lewis joins the safety fray in July, the Niners will feel comfortable having Parrish as an option at deep safety if Ronnie Heard & Dwaine Carpenter struggle.

"I've always done that," said Parrish, who played free safety as a rookie with the Chicago Bears. "I was drafted as a free safety and my second year I went to strong safety. I've always gone back and forth. I would rather stay at strong safety, but if I'm asked to go play free, and move around, I don't have a problem with that. I've already done it."
