Comfort Zone

Coach Dennis Erickson recently spoke with Portland Tribune's Kerry Eggers. Here is what Erickson had to say in regards to the team and his new staff:
“I’m really excited about it. We will be better than most people think. It is my club now, and we will continue to get better."

Erickson won’t say anything negative about Mora and Knapp but admits he wasn’t in his “comfort zone” last season.
“They were both really good coaches, but anytime you make a change, you hire who you want,” Erickson says. “I feel real comfortable with the guys I brought in, all guys who had worked with me in the past.   “Last year, we were doing what (Mora and Knapp) had done under Steve Mariucci. This year, there are going to be some changes to better reflect my philosophies. We are going to play some 30 (three-man front) defense, and we will cut back a little offensively and be better at what we do. And I will be more involved with play-calling, which will be the biggest difference. Ted and I think a lot alike, and he will be in the press box, and we will share those duties. It will be more by committee.”
