Offseason to do List

1. Restructure the front office: Coach Mike Nolan wants an adviser or general manager with an experienced NFL mind.

2. Build the supporting cast: Better surrounding talent would accelerate the development of quarterback Alex Smith.

3. Secondary help: The team will look to augment the league's worst defensive backfield through free agency or the draft.

4. Re-sign those free agents: Atop the 17-player list: linebacker Derek Smith and kicker Joe Nedney.

5. Chemistry: Participation in the off-season workout program and other club activities will be key.
