The 49ers will have to be content with rewarding themselves, because the NFL and its fans failed to recognize any individuals from the 2005 team.
The 49ers doled out plenty of their own awards Wednesday, including a team-leading sixth Len Eshmont Award for defensive linemen Bryant Young. The relatively new Bill Walsh Award for the team MVP was split between linebacker Derek Smith and kicker Joe Nedney.
The Walsh is determined by vote of the coaches, as is the Bobb McKittrick Award, which goes to the best offensive lineman and was given to center Jeremy Newberry.
League-wide, no 49er was elected to the Pro Bowl for the second straight season. Last year, long-snapper Brian Jennings was added later, but not by vote of the fans, players and coaches.
