Say It Ain't So Joe

The NFL held a ceremonious affair before the kickoff of Super Bowl XL. They honored the MVP's from the past Super Bowls by having them walk out onto the field during pregame. The Niners were represented by both MVP's Steve Young and Jerry Rice, but the three time MVP Joe Montana wasn't there. Sad if you think about it, perhaps the greatest player in Super Bowl history and in Niner history wasn't there. Why might you ask? Well he was a no show because the NFL could not guarantee him his $100,000 appearance fee. Talk about a slap in the face. Not just to the NFL, but a slap in the face to the Niner organization, and its fans. I guess we shouldn't expect any less considering this is the same man who rooted against the 49ers in Super Bowl XXIX.

At least we still have Young & Rice to graciously represent the Niners.
