It Was the Experience
Mike Nolan wanted an experienced play-caller for his next offensive coordinator and now he has him. Freshly fired Raiders coach Norv Turner will be named the 49ers' offensive coordinator today.
Turner, 53, who has spent 21 seasons as an NFL coach, including nine as a head coach and six as an offensive coordinator, replaces Mike McCarthy, who left the league's worst offense when he was hired last week as the Packers' head coach.
Turner comes to San Francisco after failing to spark the Raiders' offense last season, despite the presence of wide receiver Randy Moss and tailback LaMont Jordan, who were heralded offseason acquisitions. Turner was fired Jan. 3 after going 9-23 over two seasons, including 4-12 in 2005.
