McCarthy to Interview for Packers Job
The Green Bay Packers received permission Wednesday from the 49ers to interview offensive coordinator Mike McCarthy for their head-coaching vacancy.
McCarthy is the second of Mike Nolan's assistants to be asked to interview for a head-coaching job. The Detroit Lions were granted permission Tuesday to interview Mike Singletary, an assistant head coach in charge of the 49ers' linebackers.
Mike Sherman was fired as the Packers' coach after their 4-12 finish.
McCarthy has been an NFL assistant for 13 years, including the past six as an offensive coordinator. He joined Nolan's staff a year ago after overseeing the New Orleans Saints' offense.
He also has a history with Green Bay, having served as the Packers' quarterbacks coach in 1999.
