Seven to the Practice Squad

The 49ers signed seven players to their practice squad Sunday, including receiver Marcus Maxwell, the team's seventh-round draft choice from Oregon.
Along with Maxwell were three others who also spent the summer with the 49ers - tackle Harvey Dahl, center Norm Katnik and defensive end Scott Scharff. Another rookie the team wanted to develop, cornerback Daven Holly, was signed by the Chicago Bears.

In addition, the team signed cornerback Michael Harden, who spent the 2004 season on the Seattle Seahawks' practice squad; tight end Erik Jensen, formerly of the St. Louis Rams; and offensive tackle Sam Wilder, recently cut by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The 49ers can add one more player to the squad.

Coach Mike Nolan also said the team was in contract discussions with a veteran free agent he declined to name. If the team reaches a deal, someone on the 53-man roster must be dropped.
