Pickett Likely to Start
Coach Mike Nolan said Monday that Cody Pickett likely will start his second straight game Sunday in Chicago, and moreover, would continue to be the 49ers' top quarterback if he plays well against the Bears.
Pickett failed to lead the 49ers to a touchdown in his first start two days ago, a 24-6 loss to the New York Giants, but got high grades from his teammates and head coach for his leadership and composure.
Pickett's modest stat line - 12 for 21 for 102 yards and a 50.1 passer rating - also was better than Alex Smith's and Ken Dorsey's numbers in similar circumstances.
Niner News:
Shoulder surgery set today for Jennings
Mercury News: Jonas Jennings was scheduled to undergo arthroscopic surgery today on his damaged right shoulder, and the 49ers fear they could lose the left tackle for the rest of the season.
Smith may sit, even if his knee is ready
Oakland Tribune: At some point in the next week or two or three, Alex Smith's right knee will have healed sufficiently for him to play again.
