Newberry's Knee Still a Problem

Update: 08.20.05 - Coach Mike Nolan emphatically denied a rumor that center Jeremy Newberry would miss the season because of his knee injury.

08.19.05 - Jeremy Newberry's attempted comeback has hit another snag. The 49ers' starting center, who played only the opening game a year ago before being sidelined by injuries to his knee and back, said earlier this week that he expected to begin practicing Monday. But Thursday afternoon, Newberry acknowledged ongoing problems with his right knee. Later in the day, coach Mike Nolan confirmed through a team spokesman that Newberry's return has been pushed back by at least a week.

Newberry said earlier Thursday he was unsure whether his comeback bid would be delayed.
'It's going like it's been going,' Newberry said. 'It just keeps swelling up when I'm done, it keeps hurting when I'm done doing the rehab.'
