Nolan Ponders QB Change
When Coach Mike Nolan selected Tim Rattay as the San Francisco 49ers starting quarterback in August, he vowed that the decision would 'not be a back-and-forth issue.'
But after four games, the decision is up in the air again. With the 49ers offense struggling to show signs of competence, Nolan held back on declaring Rattay the starter for Sunday's game against the Indianapolis Colts.
'We're still in the evaluation process,' Nolan said Monday, the first indication this season that he is considering turning to No. 1 pick Alex Smith. The coach hinted that he would make his announcement Wednesday, which gives his staff at least one more day to look at film of the 49ers' 31-14 loss to the Arizona Cardinals in Mexico City on Sunday.
