Niners 16, Titans 13

New season, same story. Offense lacking. The Niners struggled once again on offense. QB Tim Rattay started his first preseason game, and he didn't bring his 'A' game. Passes fluttered and lacked zip. If it wasn't for three Titan turnovers the offense may not have scored. Thank god for the defense. The starting unit played well, holding the Titans first string to only 3 points. But aside from that the team looked lost. Even in the 2nd half with the Titans 2nd stringers in the Niner offense failed to produce.

Rattay played up until the 4th, then was replaced by rookie Alex Smith who finished off the game, which the Niners won on a Joe Nedney field goal in overtime. It is clear that the biggest hole on this Niner team once again is the offensive line. The QB's do well when they have time to throw, but again they had no time whatsoever, while the Titans quarterbacks seemed to have all day. It wasn't pretty, but a win is a win and this has to feel good for the Niners after last years 2-14 season and what happened last week when they lost one of their own.

Observations from the game:
- Sloppy play on both sides of the ball.
- Maurice Hicks more time with the ball earlier in the game.
- Battle and Lloyd will be a great combo at receiver this year.
- Offensive line needs help, not overally impressed with Jonas Jennings.
- Think the Niners finally have a kicker in Nedney.
- Andy Lee is the man.
- Alex Smith played well in the 4th and OT. Nice passes on the run, and not making many mistakes.
- Never want to look Nolan in the eye on the sidelines with those two different colored eyes of his.
- Cody Pickett was playing Special Teams. Guess Nolan is trying to find a spot on the team for him, and keep him off the practice squad.
- Rumph is going to be a nice compliment to Parrish in the secondary.
